Protestantism and Catholicism
Today there is much confusion in regards to Protestant faith and Catholic faith. In the 1500's there was the reformation of the church and the Protestant church began. Today many people think that Catholic faith is part of Christianity; they have the Holy Trinity, they have Jesus (at least an image of Him), they have the Gospel (at least a form of it), and they have the Bible (it's only a handful of books that they added to it). We disagree. Proverbs 16:25 reminds us: "There is a way that seems right to a man,but its end is the way to death."
So how are we supposed to view the Roman Catholic Church?
As gospel preachers in Italy we're confronted with the reality of these doctrinal differences on a daily basis. The Roman Catholic Church is much different then what we see in the USA, but even in the USA the fundamental doctrines of Christianity can become blurred between Catholicism and Protestantism. Things are much more exposed here in Italy, in the sense that there is a very noticeable difference. As evangelical missionaries it's absolutely fundamental to have sound doctrine in order to preach the True Gospel, make disciples and form churches that worship the God of the Bible in Spirit and in truth.
This book by R.C. Sproul is a helpful resource for anyone looking to better understand the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in comparison to the teachings of Sacred Scriptures.
